Thank you for visiting Bozeman Field School. I’m glad that you’re here to learn about our student-focused education!

At Field, we never stop emphasizing that our students are individuals—with their strengths, their struggles, their interests, how they learn and how they like to learn. We understand that when students participate in structuring their education, they are more successful.

To engage our students, Field builds every day around relationships: student-teacher, peer-to-peer and—sometimes most importantly—your student’s relationship with themself. Our small class-sizes (6-8 students), low student teacher ratio and weekly advisory group meetings support success in the classroom, as well as in your student’s social, personal and emotional development.

In the classroom, students learn by doing (and sometimes learn by failing!) and always by pushing to get outside comfort and routine. On expedition—whether on a week-long backpacking trip, or a multi-day museum-based cultural retreat—students develop real-world skills of cooperation, collaboration, emotional durability and perseverance. In both settings, our teachers are role-models. They are lifelong learners, do’ers, explorers, creators and innovators. They teach through experiential, inquiry-based problem-solving, and by modeling the appropriate risks that help build self-esteem.

Imagine if your student had a teacher who knew them well, who had worked in a collegiate setting, and who knew the college admissions process. Imagine that teacher supporting your student not only through the steps of the application process but also by calling each school they are applying to and talking with each admissions team. This is the kind of hands-on, personalized approach we take at Field. College is often the next step for our students on their path to purpose and we want to ensure that we do everything we can to launch them in the direction they’ve chosen.
